I bought this for my wife, who has an HP 12.1″ Vista machine. She hates to travel with it as she says it’s too big.
The Gigabyte comes with the large battery, giving it something around 5 hours working time if you manage power properly. This is not as good as some more recent machines, which can get up to 8 hours.
The tablet function is great. THe screen is not multi-touch, but the touchpad is, so you can still get some of the benefit. Resolution is amazing - I have to wear reading glasses to see the print, or upsize it. It’s great for looking at photos.
It comes with a SIM card socket behind the battery for a 3G SIM, but it doesn’t come with the internal hardware to support it - that’s an extra item you have to buy and have installed. This was one of only two disappointments. Otherwise, it comes with two styli for the screen, as well as the basic software. For some reason Gigabyte did not provide the tablet version of WIndows XP, so you can’t access all the features. I am not sure whether you can download the extras from Microsoft, but I doubt it.
Overall, though, it has worked as advertized and I am happy with it. Several people who have seen it would like to order one, including my daughter (she has a 12.1″ VAIO). I think for my purposes, though, I would order the HP tablet - it’s a bit more expensive but it runs Vista and has more horsepower.
